Condolences
During a recent move, up in an attic, I came across a box of letters from Joe Mcauley to me when we were both 16. I met Joe when I was visiting a friend of mine who also lived on the grounds of San Quentin. It was a fun time playing ping pong every night and joking around. We exchanged letters for a couple of years, but lived far apart and gradually moved on. I remember him as self confident, opinionated, honest and kind. He brightened up the life of an awkward and shy 16 year old girl. When I looked him up and saw that he passed away last August, I was saddened. It seems too young. I have always remembered him and always will. He was very special in my life. I wish his family condolences. You and he will be in be in my prayers. Sincerely, Diana Orsolini Yarletz

Met Joe and family after moving to Lucerne from S.Cal. in the early 80's.Have enjoyed his friendship, his laughter, and his sense of humor for all these years. Will always remember those trips to Indian Valley, sometimes we caught fish sometimes we didn't we just really enjoyed time in the outdoors. When Joe would call there was always this call sign that will live in our families memory "Joe McAuley Here".
I remember a time when I needed to replace the roof on our house and Joe showed up out of the blue with gloves in hand.I know he will be missed by many but not forgotten.Thank you Joe for all the good times.
Love you like a brother.

I was really sad to hear the news about Joe a couple of days ago and I send my prayers to him as well as the family during this time. I knew Joe and went to school with him since the 3rd grade at St. Raphael's in San Rafael as well as San Rafael High School. Over those many years Joe was one of my VERY best friends, we teased nuns together as we all did back then, played multiple sports with him from dodge ball, basketball, to football, and dated the same girls in High School (Joe actually stole one away from me once when we were seniors but that was O.K. as he was a BEST FRIEND ! I got him back later in the year by taking a girl he was totally in love with to the Barn Dance, Joe was O.K. with that however as we were pretty much inseparable in those days.I could go on & on with stories about Joe, I've missed him in more recent years, and of course miss him even more now. My heartfelt condolences to the family, Becki & I will pray for you all.
God bless - Dan Meredith
