I met Al when I was about 18 or 19 and I had never met anyone like him before or since. We had so many laughs and experiences over the last 30 plus years. We lived together, worked together and travelled together. So many stories, so many adventures. Sleep well my kind, funny, crazy old friend. I and my family will miss you enormously.

Wherever Alan lived I always managed to spend a few days or even a week with him. He was adventurous and curious about everything. Just a walk to the store could turn into an exploration of the neighborhood and he might would say, “hey you see that over there do you think we could do something with that?” We had lots of fun times and quality times together. I enjoyed cooking with alan because we learned from each other and by instinct knew when, where, how, and why the other was working to bring together a delicious meal. Eddie Harrison

Kirby had land in Oregon and built a cabin with the help of the kids. I visited one summer with Alan and family including a young Josef.

Late one afternoon the three of us took a hike in the woods. Alan propped little Josef on his shoulders so he wouldn't get lost in the bushes.

When we left the mountain top we discovered animal tracks in the dirt and realized a bear had been following us.

The bear must have lost interest because we never saw it.

That was a fun hike and one of many great memories of being with Alan in Oregon.

I will miss our conversations.
